         Let's Know about 'SENGOL'

PM Modi ji said about Sengol "जब भारत की आजादी का प्रथम पल आया तब ये सेंगोल ही था जिसने गुलामी से पहले वाले कालखंड और स्वतंत्र भारत के उस पहले पल को आपस में जोड़ दिया था।"

What is 'Sengol' :

Sengol, is a 5-feet long golden historical sceptre, made of silver, coated with gold coated and crowned with the sacred Nandi, with its unyielding gaze. The Nandi on top of the 'Sengol' is symbol of 'nyaya.'

Sengol was handed over to the first prime minister of the Republic of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, from Viceroy Lord Mountbatten, on 14 August 1947 to mark the transfer of power from British Raj to India.

History of Sengol :

'Sengol' is a word derived from the Tamil word 'Semmai', meaning 'righteousness'

Sengol was a significant part of coronation ceremonies during the Cholas period. It served as a ceremonial spear or flagstaff featuring elaborate carvings and decorative elements.

The Sengol is considered a sacred emblem of authority, representing the transfer of power between two rulers.

Modi ji carried the "Sengol" in a procession amid tunes of "nadaswaram" and chanting of Vedic mantras to the new Parliament building and installed it in a special enclosure on the right side of the Speaker's chair in the Lok Sabha chamber.
Then PM felicitated some workers who played key roles in the construction of the new Parliament building.
