Globalization : A process of standardization of people's behaviour 

     

      You can see how a box of chocolates is replacing home made or local shop made sweets on occasion of Raksha-Bandhan, this is not just a small thing, it is basically an example of standardization of customers and consumers, so that market can serve them in a standard format. The concept of 'Global Village' is actually a loss of individuality and uniqueness. The global market wants that people behave, consume and function as a standrad norms.

       The impact of globalization on our culture is a complex issue, and there are varying perspectives on how it affects different cultures around the world. Here are some ways in which globalization can be seen as negatively impacting culture:

Consumerism and materialism: Globalization has increased the availability and accessibility of consumer goods and mass media, which can lead to a focus on materialism and consumer culture rather than traditional cultural values.

Cultural appropriation: Globalization can lead to cultural appropriation, where elements of one culture are taken and used by another culture without proper respect or understanding of their origins. This can be harmful and disrespectful to the original culture and can contribute to the erasure of cultural traditions.

Homogenization of culture: As cultures become more interconnected, there is a risk that unique cultural practices, beliefs, and traditions may be lost in the process. This can lead to a loss of cultural diversity and a more homogenized global culture.

     

Loss of language: Globalization can also lead to the loss of languages, as more people around the world begin to speak dominant languages such as English or Mandarin, leading to the decline of smaller and less widely spoken languages.

How narratives are reflected in our work ?

  However, it's important to note that globalization is not inherently negative for culture, and it can also provide opportunities for cultural exchange and the preservation of cultural heritage. Globalization can allow for the sharing of cultural traditions, practices, and knowledge, leading to a richer and more diverse global culture. 

    It's all about finding a balance between the benefits and challenges of globalization and working towards a more inclusive and respectful global culture.
